Aaron Levie

Aaron Levie co-founded Box in 2005 as a college student and built it from a consumer file-locker into a public enterprise content platform. Long one of tech’s most prolific posters, he has spent the generative-AI era as enterprise software’s in-house hype ambassador — launching Box AI in 2023 to let customers query and process their documents with large language models, and reorienting the company around AI agents that work over corporate content.

The agentic enterprise

Levie’s thesis is that SaaS doesn’t die in the AI era — it becomes the substrate agents act on, with per-seat pricing giving way to consumption models as agents outnumber employees by orders of magnitude. He is candid about the failure modes, noting that companies have already seen “data being leaked because of agents, or an agent going and… blowing up your database or doing something in production you didn’t expect,” which is precisely why he argues agents need governed platforms underneath them.

His daily X commentary — equal parts product evangelism, economic optimism, and self-aware humor about AI hype — has made him a reference point in the debate over whether agents destroy or multiply knowledge work. Levie lands firmly on multiplication, while conceding the transition will reshape how software is bought, built, and staffed.
