David Solomon

David Solomon (born 1962) has been chief executive of Goldman Sachs since 2018, running Wall Street’s most storied investment bank — and moonlighting, for a stretch, as dance-music DJ “D-Sol.” Under his tenure Goldman has become one of finance’s most aggressive adopters of generative AI.

The 95% prospectus

Speaking at the Cisco AI Summit in Palo Alto in January 2025, Solomon offered one of the most concrete data points in the corporate AI debate: AI, he said, can now draft 95% of an S-1 IPO prospectus in minutes — a job that historically occupied a six-person team for two weeks. The remaining 5%, he added, is what now matters, “because the rest is now a commodity.” The remark ricocheted through banking and law, where junior professionals have long been paid to produce exactly that kind of document.

Goldman has backed the talk with deployment. Of its roughly 46,000 employees, some 11,000 are engineers, many working with AI on drafting and coding tasks, and in June 2025 the firm rolled out its in-house GS AI Assistant to the entire company, giving every banker access to large language models behind Goldman’s compliance walls. Solomon has framed AI as augmenting productivity and freeing bankers for client work, while cautioning that the technology raises the premium on judgment — the parts of the job machines cannot commoditize.

Skeptics note the obvious tension: the tasks AI now automates are the training ground for young bankers, and Solomon’s own firm has trimmed headcount in the automation era. But as testimony from the top of Wall Street, his 95% figure remains one of the most cited evidences that generative AI is doing real white-collar work today.
