Yves Guillemot

Co-Founder & CEO of Ubisoft

The co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft, publisher of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. Calls generative AI “as big a revolution for our industry as the shift to 3D” and has pushed it company-wide — from the Ghostwriter dialogue tool to player-facing NEO NPCs.

In his words

It’s as big a revolution for our industry as the shift to 3D, and we have everything to lead on the front.
PC Gamer, 2025
On the production side, we now have teams in all our studios and offices embracing these new technologies, and constantly exploring new use cases in programming, art, and overall game quality.

Biography

Yves Guillemot (born 1960) co-founded Ubisoft with his four brothers in Brittany, France in 1986 and has led it ever since, building one of the world’s largest game publishers on franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. He has steered the company through console transitions, a hostile takeover attempt by Vivendi, and a 2025 restructuring that spun its biggest brands into a Tencent-backed subsidiary.

Betting the studio on the next 3D

Guillemot has framed generative AI as a generational platform shift since Ubisoft began publicizing its experiments: Ghostwriter, a 2023 internal tool that drafts NPC “bark” dialogue for writers to refine, and NEO NPC, a 2024 GDC showcase of characters that hold free-form spoken conversations within personalities set by human developers. In November 2025 he told investors the company was “making great strides in applying gen-AI to high-value use cases that bring tangible benefits to our players and teams.”

We are continuing to make progress on groundbreaking, player-facing, generative-AI applications, building on our “neo-NPC” announcement in 2024. We’ve already advanced from prototyping to player reality.

The 3D comparison drew skepticism from press and fans — PC Gamer called the messianic framing “more baffling than ever” amid AI-bubble talk, and Ubisoft’s player base has been vocally hostile to AI content. But Guillemot’s comparison is deliberate: Ubisoft was an early winner of the 2D-to-3D transition in the 1990s with Rayman and its Montreal mega-studio, and he is positioning the company to repeat that bet, with teams in every studio exploring AI for programming, art, and quality assurance.
