Biography
Aitana López is a virtual influencer — an AI-generated persona presented as a pink-haired 25-year-old fitness model from Barcelona — launched in 2023 by the Spanish agency The Clueless, founded by designer Rubén Cruz. She was widely reported as the first Spanish AI model to build a real commercial following.
Built because humans were “unpredictable”
Cruz has said he created Aitana after projects kept stalling over problems with real influencers, from egos to cancellations. Her creators claim she can earn up to €10,000 a month — averaging closer to €3,000 — through advertising, a supplement-brand ambassadorship, and posts on the subscription platform Fanvue.
Kim Kardashian makes a million euros for an Instagram photo and she doesn’t cure cancer. Nobody earns a million euros for uploading a photo to a social network, it seems absurd to me.
Aitana’s rise sharpened debate over synthetic beauty standards, undisclosed AI, and the displacement of human models and photographers. Cruz frames her as a rational business fix; critics see an algorithm-optimised ideal engineered from “what society likes most,” with real creative workers cut out of the frame.
