Brady Tkachuk

NHL captain, Olympic gold medalist

The US Olympic hockey captain publicly disowned an AI-doctored video — posted by the White House’s official account — that put an anti-Canadian slur in his mouth, calling it “clearly fake” and words that would never come from him.

In his words

Well, it’s clearly fake, because it’s not my voice, not my lips moving.
ESPN, 2026
Those words would never come out of my mouth. I would never say anything like that.
NBC News, 2026

Biography

Brady Tkachuk (born 1999 in Scottsdale, Arizona) is the captain of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators and a member of a prominent hockey family. In 2026 he helped the United States win its first Olympic men’s ice-hockey gold since 1980, at the Milan Games.

A deepfake from the White House

After the US beat Canada for gold, the White House’s official TikTok account posted a video that used AI to doctor footage from a Tkachuk brothers’ press conference, fabricating a crude anti-Canadian slur that Brady Tkachuk never uttered. The clip, which itself disclosed that it used AI-generated media, drew more than eleven million views.

At his next media availability in Ottawa — where he captains an NHL team in the Canadian capital — Tkachuk distanced himself firmly from the fabrication, noting the voice and lip movements were not his and stressing his genuine respect for the Canadian players. His measured public correction stood out precisely because the doctored words had been circulated by a government account.
