Dylan Field

Co-founder & CEO of Figma

The Figma CEO is weaving AI throughout the design platform used by millions, with a guiding aim to “lower the floor but raise the ceiling” — expand who can design while pushing what professionals can do.

In his words

We want to lower the floor, but raise the ceiling — make it so more people can participate in the design process, while also enabling professionals to do even more with AI.

Our philosophy is that as the models get better, we get better. That’s always the test I have strategically for us.

Biography

Dylan Field (born 1992) is the co-founder and CEO of Figma, the browser-based collaborative design platform that became the default tool for product design and took the company public in 2025. He dropped out of Brown University on a Thiel Fellowship to build Figma, and famously walked away from a $20 billion acquisition by Adobe after regulators balked.

Lowering the floor, raising the ceiling

Field has pushed AI deep into Figma’s products — from “First Draft,” which generates initial designs from a prompt, to Figma Make, which turns designs into working code. His framing is deliberately two-sided: AI should let far more people participate in design while giving professionals more power, not flatten craft into sameness. He ties the company’s fortunes directly to the technology, saying that “as the models get better, we get better.”

He is also candid about uncertainty. Field has said no one yet knows whether the current moment will look, in five years, like “the bubbliest of times” or a period when the world “totally underestimated” AI’s effect — a rare acknowledgment of doubt from someone betting his company on the answer.
