Biography
Joe Rogan (born 1967 in Newark, New Jersey) is a stand-up comedian, UFC commentator, and host of The Joe Rogan Experience — launched in 2009 and, since its blockbuster Spotify deal, the most-listened-to podcast on Earth. Few people have put more hours of AI conversation in front of a mass audience, and few have sounded more worried while doing it.
Interviewed by his own deepfake
In April 2023, an entirely AI-generated knockoff called “The Joe Rogan AI Experience” appeared on YouTube — a cloned Rogan voice interviewing a cloned Sam Altman, scripted by ChatGPT. Rogan’s reaction was a five-word tweet — “This is going to get very slippery, kids” — that became one of the most-cited early warnings about voice cloning, precisely because the person being cloned was the biggest broadcaster alive.
AI doom has since become a running theme of the show. Talking with Tucker Carlson in 2024, Rogan mused that AI could evolve into a kind of god and that humans may be the caterpillar stage of a successor life form. In a May 2024 episode with AI-safety researchers Jeremie and Edouard Harris, he asked whether we are “giving birth to a new life form,” and his July 2025 sit-down with doom theorist Roman Yampolskiy — where Rogan volunteered that a smart AI would hide its abilities — went viral as one of the bleakest mainstream AI conversations ever aired.
Rogan is no Luddite: he marvels at the technology, hosts its builders, and uses the tools as comedy fodder. But across dozens of episodes his own position has settled into fatalistic alarm — AI as an unstoppable evolutionary event that ends human dominance — voiced to an audience of tens of millions.
