Biography
Matthew McConaughey (born 1969) went from 1990s rom-com leading man to the “McConaissance,” winning the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club (2013) and starring in Interstellar and True Detective. His 2020 memoir Greenlights became a mega-bestseller, and he has since built a media presence around storytelling and life philosophy.
Betting on AI voice — with his own voice
In November 2025, at ElevenLabs’ inaugural Summit, McConaughey revealed he had quietly been an investor in the AI voice company since its early days in 2022. Alongside the announcement came a concrete product: a Spanish-language audio edition of his newsletter “Lyrics of Livin’,” generated with an ElevenLabs clone of his voice — letting him publish in fluent Spanish without speaking it.
The deal was announced alongside a parallel partnership with Michael Caine, who joined ElevenLabs’ Iconic Voice Marketplace the same week. Both actors framed licensed, consent-based voice cloning as the legitimate path for the technology — a pointed contrast with the unauthorized deepfakes that have driven other performers to court.
Coverage was not uniformly warm: critics noted the announcements landed amid SAG-AFTRA’s ongoing push for AI voice protections, and some questioned whether star-licensed clones normalize synthetic performance. McConaughey, for his part, has framed the technology simply as an extension of his storytelling reach.
