Ashly Burch

Voice Actor & Writer

Acclaimed voice actor — Aloy in Horizon, Chloe in Life is Strange — and Emmy-nominated writer who has become a leading voice in the SAG-AFTRA video game strike, demanding consent and compensation before any AI replica of a performer is made.

In her words

What we’re fighting for is that you have to get our consent before you make an AI version of us in any form. You have to compensate us fairly and you have to tell us how you’re using this AI double.
The Gamer, 2025
I want there to be a new generation of actors... and if we don’t win, then that future is really compromised.
GameSpot, 2025

Biography

Ashly Burch (born 1990) is an American voice actor, writer, and producer. She is the voice of Aloy in Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series and Chloe Price in Life is Strange, among dozens of game roles including Tiny Tina in Borderlands, and she co-created and wrote for the web series Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’? and wrote on the Apple TV+ comedy Mythic Quest, earning an Emmy nomination.

The AI Aloy moment

In March 2025, a leaked Sony tech demo showed an AI-driven version of her character Aloy holding conversations. Guerrilla told Burch the demo used none of her voice or facial data and was not in active development, but the video still left her, in her words, worried about game performance as an art form — imagining the same technology attached to a real performance, with the actor left no recourse if the industry lost the fight over protections.

Burch has been a prominent figure in the SAG-AFTRA video game strike, which began in July 2024 over exactly these questions. Her demand is precise: consent before any AI replica, fair compensation, and transparency about how a digital double is used. She frames her advocacy generationally, worried less for her own secure position than for the newer and more vulnerable actors who could be replaced without protections — a stance she shares with fellow union members across SAG-AFTRA.
