Biography

Ravi Kishan (Ravindra Shukla, born 1969) is a prolific actor across Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema and a reality-television regular, who entered politics with the BJP and serves as the Member of Parliament for Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

A court order against AI deepfakes

On July 2, 2026, in Ravindra Shukla v. Ashok Kumar, Justice Jyoti Singh of the Delhi High Court granted Ravi Kishan an ex-parte interim injunction protecting his personality rights. The order restrained unknown defendants from the unauthorized use of his name, image, likeness and voice — expressly including AI-generated deepfakes and obscene or defamatory synthetic content — and directed platforms such as Meta, Google and X to take down identified material within 72 hours.

The court recognised that his name, image and voice carry “significant commercial value” deserving legal protection. Kishan’s suit is part of a fast-growing line of Indian celebrity personality-rights cases — following Anil Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan — in which the courts have become the front line against AI misuse of famous likenesses.
