Sam Gorski
Co-Founder of Corridor Digital
Co-founder of Corridor Digital who co-wrote and directed both “Anime Rock, Paper, Scissors” AI shorts, built a GPT-3-powered virtual influencer, and keeps shipping AI experiments — while gleefully skewering low-effort AI “content” along the way.
In his words
What if I told you that by harnessing the power of AI… you could have all that power of a content creator at your fingertips?
Is content just, like, the vegetable oil of art? It’s something that, like, classifies as a food product and has calories, but it is so devoid of any flavor or value.
Biography
Sam Gorski is one half of the founding duo behind Corridor Digital, the Los Angeles VFX studio whose Corridor Crew channel made “VFX artists react” a YouTube genre. He and Niko Pueringer began making effects-heavy student films together in junior high in Stillwater, Minnesota, moved to Los Angeles in 2008, and launched the studio that became Corridor in 2009–2010.
Experiments first, arguments later
Gorski’s AI stance is expressed less in manifestos than in projects. In April 2022 — months before generative AI went mainstream — he built “Xierra Vega,” a fully procedural virtual influencer that used GPT-3 for dialogue and Unreal Engine for visuals, posting AI-generated content to Instagram and TikTok at the push of what he called a “content button.” The video doubled as a meditation on the “dead internet”: even as he built the machine, Gorski mocked the hollow “content” it churned out and noted the model’s odd drift toward negativity. A month earlier, a CorridorCast episode titled “A.i. Consent and the Trial of Sam Gorski” put his views on AI training consent through a mock cross-examination by his own crew.
In February 2023 he and Pueringer co-wrote and directed “Anime Rock, Paper, Scissors,” the Stable Diffusion-restyled short that drew millions of views and a ferocious backlash from animators over its model being fine-tuned on frames from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Rather than retreat, the pair answered the consent objection directly: the August 2023 sequel was trained on original artwork made for the project by an artist friend, and shipped with a full tutorial so others could copy the pipeline. Asked by KitBash3D where VFX is heading, Gorski pointed to AI — predicting its true purpose for visual effects would be in the background of the craft rather than its face.
Later CorridorCast episodes carried the argument forward — one 2023 installment was titled “Creating Distinct Art Styles with A.i. is ALOT More Artistic Than People Think” — and the studio has kept generative tools in its VFX toolkit since.
