Weights, statement counts, the ×1.25 multiplier for having a stake in an AI-impacted field, and the formula’s smoothing are already baked in — the points add up to the score: Strongly Pro-AI · 6.8/10
In his words
So, for me, almost regardless if there’s an AI bubble, that would be about valuations, not the underlying technology.
Hype-free, and the British accent is a freebie bonus.
Biography
AI Explained is the anonymous YouTuber — publicly known only as “Philip” — behind one of the most respected analytical channels covering large language models. His videos comb through papers, system cards, and benchmark results in careful detail, and have gained a following among researchers and staff at labs like OpenAI and Microsoft.
Hype-free by design
The channel’s self-description — “hype-free” — is also its method. Rather than celebrate or dismiss each release, Philip probes what models can and cannot do, often designing his own tests to expose weaknesses. In August 2024 he introduced SimpleBench, a reasoning benchmark on which ordinary humans reliably outperform state-of-the-art systems, precisely to puncture inflated capability claims.
That skepticism is not opposition. AI Explained covers the field as someone who takes the technology seriously and expects it to keep advancing; he presses hard on hype because he believes the real trajectory matters. It is a pro-AI stance rooted in scrutiny rather than cheerleading.
