I’m extremely excited and inspired by the realm of musical possibilities that come from allowing the human-mind to collaborate with the non-human mind. YouTube has been a great partner in outlining their approach to AI and understands the need to work together with artists like me to develop this technology responsibly, ensuring it will accelerate creativity instead of replacing it.
AI is never going to wipe us off the planet creatively. Like every new piece of technology that comes around every decade, we humans have to learn how to work with it to make music that no one’s ever heard before.
Biography
Charlie Puth (born 1991) is a Berklee-trained singer, songwriter, and producer with perfect pitch who broke out of YouTube covers into global pop stardom — “See You Again,” his 2015 Paul Walker tribute with Wiz Khalifa, spent twelve weeks at No. 1, followed by hits like “Attention” and “Light Switch.” His studio-nerd credentials make him one of pop’s most technically fluent voices on music technology.
From Dream Track to chief music officer
In November 2023 Puth became one of nine artists — alongside John Legend and Demi Lovato — to license an AI clone of his voice to Dream Track, YouTube’s experiment powered by Google DeepMind’s Lyria model that generated 30-second songs in a participating artist’s voice for Shorts. His statement at launch was among the most enthusiastic of the group, praising YouTube for developing the technology “responsibly, ensuring it will accelerate creativity instead of replacing it.”
In March 2026 he converted enthusiasm into a job title, joining Moises — a music-tech platform with some 70 million users whose AI isolates vocals and instruments, detects keys, and generates stems from text prompts — as chief music officer, guiding its creative and product direction.
Every musician I know is using Moises, and I’ve been using it in my own creative process for years. It opens up possibilities that used to take hours or expensive studio setups.
Puth tempers his optimism with a musician’s caveat: he has argued AI will never fully take over human-made music because its perfection erases the imperfections that “add to the vibe” — for him AI is a collaborator that must be worked with, not a replacement.
