In a June 2026 Vogue Italia interview, Madonna dismissed AI and algorithmic culture in a single breath, lamenting a music industry where “to have a record deal you think about how many followers you have” and where artists no longer work “from a very pure place for each other.” Creativity, she argued, requires stillness and disconnection — “that’s how you fuel your imagination” — not machine assistance.

The statement drew pointed coverage precisely because Madonna’s own operation has not been AI-free: her 2024 tour used AI-generated background visuals, promotional videos for “Veronica Electronica” and “The Untold Chapter” leaned on AI in 2025, and she has posted AI-generated images of herself — including one meeting Pope Francis — to Instagram. Critics like Futurism noted she has never publicly reconciled the two.
