Morgan Freeman
Actor and Narrator
The Oscar-winning actor whose narration voice is among the most recognizable on Earth — and among the most cloned. Freeman has publicly called out unauthorized AI imitations of his voice as a “scam” and set his lawyers loose on them.
In his words
Thank you to my incredible fans for your vigilance and support in calling out the unauthorized use of an A.I. voice imitating me. Your dedication helps authenticity and integrity remain paramount.
Don’t mimic me with falseness. I get paid for doing stuff like that, so if you’re gonna do it without me, you’re robbing me.
Biography
Morgan Freeman (born 1937) won an Academy Award for Million Dollar Baby and anchored classics from The Shawshank Redemption to March of the Penguins, building a second career on a baritone so distinctive it became cultural shorthand for the voice of God. That same distinctiveness has made him one of the most-cloned voices of the AI era.
The TikTok “niece” and the voice clones
In June 2024, a TikTok creator posted a vlog claiming to be Freeman’s niece, narrated by an AI-generated rendition of his voice convincing enough that commenters believed it was him. On June 28, 2024, Freeman thanked fans for “calling out the unauthorized use of an A.I. voice imitating me,” tagging the post #AI, #scam and #IdentityProtection.
The imitations kept coming, and Freeman kept escalating. In a November 2025 Guardian interview he said he was “a little PO’d” and that his lawyers had been “very, very busy” pursuing unauthorized AI uses of his voice — “quite a few” cases, by his count. Asked about voice cloning on CBS Mornings earlier that year, his answer was three words: “I’ve got lawyers.” His stance echoes the fight Scarlett Johansson waged over her own voice.
Freeman’s objection is notably specific: it is about consent and payment, not the technology itself. He has recalled a deal in which a company paid him so that a sound-alike could perform on his behalf — an arrangement he was fine with. “Yeah, that works,” he said, when asked whether compensation changes the equation.
