Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah (born 1984 in Johannesburg) rose from South African stand-up to host The Daily Show from 2015 to 2022, then reinvented himself as a podcaster and one of entertainment’s most visible AI optimists. Since 2023 he has held an actual title at Microsoft — “Chief Questions Officer” — hosting The Prompt, the company’s series on AI used for disaster response, accessibility, deepfake detection, and public health.

Curiosity over fear

On Reid Hoffman’s Possible podcast, Noah called GPT-4 “one of the biggest leaps in technology and in the evolution of how we do things that we have experienced in decades,” and argued the hopeful part of AI bias stories is that “you are able to find and correct that bias in a time that is almost impossible to recreate in a human being.” His What Now? podcast has hosted marquee AI conversations, including “Will AI Save Humanity or End It?” with Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman.

His stock advice, delivered at Zendesk’s Relate conference in March 2025, is “be curious, not fearful” — play with the tools, learn them, and let curiosity carry you into the next era. He is careful to separate the technology from its economics, telling audiences that job anxiety is really about employers: “you’re not afraid of AI, you’re afraid of the companies and the employers.”

Critics note that a paid Microsoft ambassador is not a neutral referee on AI’s promise. Noah’s public positions do, however, predate and exceed the gig — he jokes about being extra nice to AI assistants just in case, but his consistent theme is that fear is a worse guide than engagement.
