Fraud Investigator

YouTube’s internet-fraud detective (Stephen Findeisen) has made AI deception a recurring target — his Rabbit R1 investigation coined a template for exposing “AI washing,” and he warned early that “deepfake scams are here, and we’re not ready.”

In his words

Deepfake scams are here, and we’re not ready.

The best thing you could say at this point about Jesse and Rabbit is that they vastly over-promised and under-delivered; the worst you could say is this is consumer fraud.
Frank on Fraud, 2024

Biography

Stephen Findeisen, known as Coffeezilla, is YouTube’s most prominent fraud investigator — the deadpan, green-lit interrogator who unraveled Logan Paul’s CryptoZoo, grilled Sam Bankman-Fried mid-collapse, and interviewed the trader behind Argentina’s $LIBRA memecoin scandal. When the grift economy migrated from crypto to AI, so did his beat.

Exposing “AI washing”

His May 2024 series on the Rabbit R1 — capped by “$30,000,000 AI Is Hiding a Scam” — became the canonical AI-washing takedown. Findeisen showed that the device’s much-hyped “Large Action Model” was largely ChatGPT plus hardcoded browser scripts, traced the founders’ previous abandoned NFT project, and concluded the kindest reading was massive over-promising — and the harshest, consumer fraud. The investigation crystallized a pattern he keeps finding: startups exaggerating AI capability to raise money on the label.

He was also early to AI-powered crime itself. In February 2023 he published an investigation into voice-cloning fraud, warning that “deepfake scams are here, and we’re not ready,” and his subsequent work has covered AI romance scams, celebrity deepfake ads, and the industrialization of synthetic deception.

Findeisen’s quarrel is with fraud, not computation — he is a technologist by training and uses modern tools in his own production. But as a public voice his function is adversarial: he is one of the few investigators systematically documenting how AI hype and AI capability get weaponized against ordinary people.
