Danny Gonzalez

Danny Gonzalez (born 1994) is an American comedian from the Chicago suburbs who built 2.9 million followers on Vine before becoming one of YouTube’s defining commentary voices, with more than 7 million subscribers (his fans are collectively addressed as “Greg”). His deadpan teardowns of terrible movies, influencer grifts, and internet weirdness regularly draw millions of views — often alongside friend and fellow commentator Drew Gooden.

Shrimp Jesus and the bots

In April 2024 Gonzalez published “Boomers Getting Tricked By AI On Facebook,” a nearly eight-million-view investigation of the AI slop economy: pages pumping out shrimp Jesus, garlic-sculpting children, and fake veterans to farm likes from older users, monetization tutorials teaching people to mass-produce fake images for Facebook’s creator payouts, and comment sections of identical “amen”s he concluded were bots praising other bots.

Gonzalez is careful to aim at deception rather than the technology itself — artists using AI “like you would use any other tool in Photoshop” is fine by him; fake product testimonials and engagement bait are not. He argued platforms should train detectors and badge AI content so “people aren’t tricked,” and flagged the feedback-loop problem early: if AI-generated images flood the training data, “isn’t the AI just going to get worse and worse?” He returned to the theme with the second-channel video “ai reacting to ai” and continued slop-adjacent coverage since.
