Biography
Finneas O’Connell (born 1997 in Los Angeles) wrote and produced Billie Eilish’s generation-defining records in a childhood bedroom studio, sweeping the 2020 Grammys — Album, Record, and Song of the Year plus Producer of the Year — and later sharing two Academy Awards with his sister for “No Time to Die” and “What Was I Made For?”. He is arguably the most decorated producer of his generation, all of it built on a defiantly handmade process.
Signature first, flamethrower later
In April 2024, Finneas signed the Artist Rights Alliance open letter calling on AI developers, tech companies, and music platforms to “cease the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists,” a document that also conceded AI’s “enormous potential” when used responsibly.
His bluntest statement came in February 2025, after a viral TikTok used AI-generated clips of celebrities — including a fake Finneas — reacting to an invented mystery about Billie Eilish’s death. Rather than lament the morbid premise, he left a single comment under the video: “You killed a forest with this amount of AI and for what.” The reply, covered by BuzzFeed, folded the environmental cost of generative video into a one-line review and was widely praised by fans as the definitive response to AI slop.
