In a 2026 essay titled “AI: Existential Threat or Lifetime Opportunity?” Stephan laid out both the doomer and the optimist scenarios before landing on adaptation. Personally, I think the direction of the doomers is probably right. But their timeline is probably wrong, and that makes a big difference.
