Biography
Hasan Piker (born 1991), who streams as HasanAbi, is a Turkish-American commentator who left The Young Turks to become Twitch’s dominant political broadcaster, narrating the news for hours a day to millions of followers from an explicitly socialist perspective. His marathon election-night and breaking-news streams routinely outdraw cable news among younger viewers.
“Wants AI to Die”
A May 2026 Wired profile — headlined “Hasan Piker, Self-Described ‘Ayatollah of Woke,’ Wants AI to Die” — crystallized years of on-stream hostility toward generative AI. Piker told the magazine he refuses to use the technology, citing cognitive offloading, hallucinations, and what he sees as its core economic function: letting owners of capital cut labor costs. He mocked the reflex of readers asking Grok to explain his own tweets, calling it training oneself to be dependent on a robot, and dismissed most AI-art enthusiasts he encounters in caustic terms.

The stance is of a piece with his politics: he frames AI as a labor struggle rather than a technology story, warning about its “capacity for being a vehicle of unlimited misinformation” and giving airtime to critical coverage of the data-center buildout reshaping energy grids and local economies. For the large young audience that gets its news from him, Piker is arguably the most influential anti-AI voice on the internet.
