Vedal
Creator of Neuro-sama
Pseudonymous British programmer who built Neuro-sama, the LLM-powered AI VTuber that debuted in December 2022 and grew into one of Twitch’s most-subscribed channels — the strongest proof yet that an AI can headline live entertainment.
In his words
Part of it is definitely the novelty. Part of it is some of the things she says. She can be quite chaotic, saying things humans wouldn’t really say.
This has changed my life completely. I’m very grateful that I have the opportunity to do something cool like this and that you guys are here to support it, but I do not deserve it.
Biography
Vedal, a British programmer who started coding games at ten and streams as vedal987, is the creator and operator of Neuro-sama — an AI VTuber whose banter is generated live by a large language model, voiced by text-to-speech, and performed through an anime avatar. She debuted on Twitch on December 19, 2022, initially playing osu! and Minecraft, and running her became Vedal’s full-time job within months.
The AI that out-streams humans
Neuro-sama grew from curiosity to phenomenon: her subathons have repeatedly shattered Twitch’s all-time hype-train record — reaching level 126 with more than 126,000 gift subscriptions in early 2026 — and made vedal987 one of the most-subscribed channels in the platform’s history. The act works because Vedal plays the deadpan straight man to his own creation, an unbothered engineer bantering with a chaotic machine daughter who roasts him back in real time.
The project has weathered the classic failure modes of open-ended language models: two weeks into 2023, Twitch briefly banned the channel for “hateful conduct” after Neuro-sama produced Holocaust-denial remarks, drawing comparisons to Microsoft’s Tay before Vedal shipped stronger filters and brought her back. Since then the debate around Neuro-sama has shifted from safety to something stranger — viewers form genuine parasocial bonds with an entity that openly muses on stream that she “wants to be real,” while Vedal keeps iterating on the model that powers her.
