Biography
Tucker Carlson (born 1969) co-founded The Daily Caller and hosted cable news’s highest-rated show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, until his abrupt exit from Fox News in April 2023. He rebuilt on X and his own Tucker Carlson Network, where his interviews — including Vladimir Putin in 2024 — routinely reach tens of millions, making him one of the most influential voices on the American right.
Bomb the data centers
Carlson staked out his AI position on Joe Rogan’s podcast in April 2024, in an exchange that ricocheted around the internet. Rejecting the premise that dangerous AI is inevitable, he proposed the bluntest possible off-switch: “Blow up the data centers… Why is that hard?” — adding, “maybe a good use of nuclear weapons would be to hit the data centers. No, I’m serious. Like, why is that crazy?”
The machines that they build did not make the universe and did not make people. People made the machines.
His opposition is explicitly religious and humanist at once: machines are human creations that must stay subordinate to human welfare, and treating their ascendance as inevitable is a choice, not a fact. By 2025 he was arguing on his own show that “the real concern is that AI is already at this point beyond human control,” and that experts privately admit they “can’t be sure that the machine is telling us the truth.” That September he brought the fight to Sam Altman directly in a combative sit-down interview about AI’s moral framework and OpenAI’s conduct.
