Draw Like a Sir

Draw Like a Sir is the masked stage persona of Marcel Kühn, a German artist from Germersheim whose manga-flavored drawing tutorials — faces, anatomy, perspective, and full “learn to draw from 0 to 100” roadmaps — have drawn over two million subscribers. He self-publishes the manga series “MYTH,” sells art books and courses, and never shows his face, appearing instead behind a grinning hair-over-the-eyes cartoon mask; a running gag on the channel is fans googling “draw like a sir face reveal.”

The boredom argument

In April 2025, as the viral Studio Ghibli-style image trend (to the dismay of Hayao Miyazaki fans) split the internet, he posted “The best reason why to not use Ai Art.” — a short aimed not at artists but at the people generating images for fun. Granting that most of them ignore job losses and energy costs, he argued from pure self-interest: AI-generated football would look spectacular for a clip and be unwatchable for ninety minutes, and the same “feeling of boredom and pointlessness” awaits every medium once everything is cheap to generate.

He closed with a warning that white-collar workers defending AI art are “paving a nice smooth road” for automation to reach their own desks. On his main channel the stance is quieter but structural: hundreds of hours of tutorials premised on the idea that anyone can learn to draw by hand — the skill generative AI invites people to skip.
